CEPA is currently seeking to fill a full-time Artistic Director position to start Spring, 2014. Responsibilities will include coordination and implementation of all aspects of the visual arts program within budget, including exhibitions, artist residencies, and public art programs. This includes: working with the curator to realize exhibitions and related projects; interfacing with artists, fabricators and art handlers; coordinating shipping and production of artwork; providing or securing any required technical assistance; and managing installation of a variety of art from both traditional two dimensional work to site-specific installations in both CEPA’s main galleries and its off-site project space.
Artistic Director will also work with the curator on the design and production of all program related print and digital material such as catalogues, announcements, and exhibit didactics as well as website and blog page designs and updates. As such candidates should be familiar with a Mac platform and have high proficiency in applications such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, and CMS interfaces. Additional technical knowledge of new media and software applications are key assets.
Additional basic duties include: overseeing the maintenance of the gallery spaces, the project space, and CEPA’s resident artist live/work space; insuring the continued development and maintenance of program archives; nurturing relationships with current artistic and community partners; coordination of visual art interns; and supporting education program when needed. Some physical work will be required and candidates should be comfortable with hand and power tools.
Applicants should possess thorough knowledge and understanding of the contemporary art world. Bachelor’s degree in studio art, art history or related field required, Masters Degree preferred. Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience in a gallery or museum setting. CEPA is a fast-paced environment with a small nimble staff that values flexibility, a team approach, and creative thinking.
