BIO: A.J. Fries received a BFA from the University at Buffalo. He has exhibited widely in Western New York, including at Hallwalls, Buffalo Arts Studio, the Burchfield Penney Art Center, and Big Orbit Gallery, among others, as well as at the Phoenix Gallery in New York. He was also a part of the Beyond/In Western New York biennial (2007). He has received grants from the New York State Council on the Arts and the Arts Council In Buffalo and Erie County. Fries participated in the NYFA MARK program in 2009, and has enjoyed residencies at the International Studio and Curatorial Program in New York, and at the Vermont Studio Center. Fries was designated one of the Burchfield Penney’s first “Living Legacy” artists in 2012. Fries’s photo realistic and abstract paintings are part of numerous collections including the permanent collection of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the Burchfield Penney Art Center, as well as several important private collections. www.ajfriesart.com
