Max Collins (b. 1988) is a photographer and public artist from Bu alo, NY and is currently based in Portland, Oregon. He studied Fine Art & Journalism at the University of Michigan and received his MFA in Visual Studies from SUNY at Buffalo. Collins’ practice involves the application of documentary photography, public murals, and participatory workshops in order to engage a broader audience with various community organizations and social causes. While on the West Coast, Collins is exploring how we experience and process death in Western society by working for a network of funeral homes in the Portland area as well as leading workshops at the Dougy Center, a pioneering grief counseling center for children.

This photograph was taken in 2016 during the creation of Collins’ exhibition, Natural Processes, located in Niagara Falls at the Castellani Art Museum.
