BIO: Alexandra P. Spaulding was born in 1979 in Buffalo, New York. She received a B.F.A in photography from The Tisch School of the Arts at New York University in 2002, an M.F.A from The Glasgow School of Art in 2005, and her Ph.D by practice also from The Glasgow School of Art in 2012. Since graduating from NYU and undertaking her M.F.A. and Ph.D, Spaulding’s practice has shifted from being primarily photography based, to one that is focused on utilizing light and sound within immersive installation environments/spaces. Spaulding has exhibited internationally, and her forthcoming solo show will open in September 2014, at the Castellani Museum of Art at Niagara University in Lewiston, New York. STATEMENT: As an artist, my practice focuses on generating ineffable experiences for my participants through aurally immersive installation art and site-specific interventions. I am heavily influenced by the artistic practices of: Robert Irwin, James Turrell, Olafur Eliasson, LaMonte Young, Alvin Lucier and Scanner.
