STATEMENT: Scheuttle travels the country with an 8×10 view camera. His body of work highlights the fading mysticism in our American frontiers. His work embodies a sense of exploration into the lives and rituals of contemporary American youth. Ceremony, religion, fantasy, love and death. Aggressive and confrontational, his work strays from traditional documentary photography and puts the viewer on an equal plane with subjects he displays in life-like proportions. Mentored by masters of the advent of American photography, Scheuttle’s work challenges the notion that we have moved past exploration into Abstraction. There is still a beautiful, violent place, and it is beneath our sheets and just past the backyard hedges.
